    Documentation & policy

    Lifting a 1981 quarantine

In 1981 the then Jammu & Kashmir government barred fresh apricots and apples from leaving Ladakh. The order was SRO 397, issued under the J&K Plant and Disease Act, 1973.

The cooperative and its partners documented the case and made policy recommendations so Ladakh's fresh fruit could reach outside markets. That opened the way for the fresh apricot trade that now makes up most of the FPO's business.
